Do you live in a colder climate or at least someplace that gets a tad nippy from time to time? Ever have to wear gloves to keep warm or for any other reason for that matter? If you answered yes to either question and own or are planning to own an iPhone then you may have some problems using it without taking your gloves off.
People have been complaining that the touch screen keyboard on the iPhone doesn't work when tapped by a gloved finger. Never mind that using the tiny keyboard and flat with a gloved finger would be difficult anyway but it turns out that without skin-to-keys contact you can't do anything with it. That means emailing on the move on a cold day would require removing your gloves. Not a biggy for some but to those that walk to work or meetings in sub zero temperatures this is not good news at all. Nor is it ideal for those who wear gloves as a part of their job. And before you even begin to think about using a stylus—they don't work either.
The tactile keyboard on cell phones was all the rage for awhile because it allowed us to speed up texts and mobile emailing. But, as with all other good things, someone decided that there must be a way to make it better. And since these days ‘better' is defined by smaller and sleeker, the virtual touch keyboard was born. By eliminating the tactile keyboard and instead using built in software devices like the iPhone could be a smidgeon slimmer than the Blackberry or one of the cell phones with the attached tactile keyboard. But now that we've got it there seem to be quite a few people—gloved or not—saying that slimmer is not better. Some would even go so far as to say that it's a pain in the butt!
The touch screen keyboard has its perks, like freeing up more room for a bigger screen. This comes in handy when you're playing games, reading your agenda or watching a video, but not so much when it's time to send off an email or text message. Issues like not being able to ‘feel' what you're typing or hitting a couple of keys at once are slowing people down. And those with gloves on or even long nails find themselves pretty much at a standstill with the touch screen. So much for improved speed and efficiency and keeping in touch while on the move.
In the meantime Apple continues to try to improve the multi-touch keyboard, but gloved folk are still waiting for a better solution because as keys have gotten a tad bigger on the new iPhone, it still needs to feel your skin in order to work. So it's either gloves off or you need to find a new solution to your problem. You can visit out website for ways to get back your typing speed and ability without having to trash your costly iPhone.
